Hub ID Featured in Liberty Alliance Public Interoperability Demonstrations
at RSA Security Conference
SAN FRANCISCO, RSA SECURITY CONFERENCE–April 15,
2003– Communicator Inc, a provider of secure communications
services to Fortune 1000 companies and cross-enterprise communities
will implement the Liberty Alliance Phase 2 specifications into
its Hub ID™ Identity Management
service. Communicator Inc, a sponsor member of the Liberty Alliance,
provides an open and commonly accepted Liberty-enabled platform
for companies to build interoperable identity-based Web services.
Communicator Inc plans to incorporate the Phase 2 specifications
into Hub ID, which will be featured in the Liberty Alliance’s
Public Interoperability demonstration at the RSA Security Conference
Tuesday, April 15 at 8:30 a.m. PT. Communicator Inc will also
showcase Hub ID in a business-to-business scenario and a business-to-enterprise
scenario at the Moscone Center, booth #517.
“Integrating Liberty specifications into Hub ID enables
Communicator Inc to quickly and cost-effectively deliver customer
solutions that support standards and enable interoperability”,
said Serge Shinkar, product manager for Communicator Hub ID. “As
we implement Liberty capabilities, our customers are finding additional
benefits beyond interoperability. For example, many information
providers have discovered that Liberty standards, particularly
the Identity Web Services Framework, will allow them to add customer
identity information to their existing content distribution channels.
This drives revenue growth by moving information providers closer
to their end-customers and opening wider distribution opportunities.”
Hub ID is the first Identity Management service that securely
manages identities both within and across enterprises in a wide
variety of industries, including financial services, government,
and life sciences. Hosted and managed by Communicator Inc, Hub
ID is based on its Federated Directory™ structure designed
by the company in 1999. Communicator Inc recently implemented
the Liberty Alliance 1.1 specification in Hub ID reducing the
time for companies to join its secure gated communities from several
months to just days. Phase 2 Liberty Alliance enhancements will
be available to all current Hub ID customers immediately upon
implementation.
Liberty Alliance Phase 2 Specifications
The Liberty Alliance Project today announced availability of a
public draft of the Phase 2 specifications, which introduces the
Identity Web Services Framework (ID-WSF). ID-WSF outlines the
technical components necessary to build interoperable identity-based
web services that meet specific business needs and also protect
the privacy and security of users’ shared information.
Phase 2 also introduces the Identity Services Interface Specifications
(ID-SIS), a collection of specifications that will provide a standard
way for companies to build interoperable services like registration
profiles, contact books, or calendar, geo-location or alert services.
Finally, Phase 2 updates the first set of Liberty specifications
(version 1.1), and uses them as the foundation for the Identity
Federation Framework (ID-FF), which provide standards for simplified
sign-on and federation or “linking” among disparate
accounts within a group of businesses that have established relationships.

“Communicator Inc has always been a strong supporter of
the emerging standards for Identity Management and we are excited
to be part of Liberty Alliance’s Public Interop at the RSA
Conference,” added Shinkar. “The Interop is a perfect
opportunity to showcase the unique and industry-leading capabilities
of Hub ID™ and demonstrate how the federated identity management
architecture we pioneered is helping to guide the development
of these standards. The success our customers have experienced
provides proof of concept for this approach to managing identities
across enterprises and for the business value we provide in building
communities of trust where employees, common customers, partners
and suppliers can securely communicate and exchange mission critical
information.”
Communicator Inc is encountering demand from companies wanting
to extend their content to customers, partners, and suppliers
where interoperability, confidentiality and security are crucial.
Hub ID’s Federated Directory™ allows each company
to maintain autonomy and control of the authentication and authorization
of their user identities while letting their users move securely
between cross-enterprise applications and Web sites using a single
user name and password. Communicator Inc, through Hub ID, acts
as an independent, trusted third party, synchronizing the directories
of each organization, matching multiple identities of their common
users, and facilitating the exchange of encrypted security credentials
between them. Hub ID helps companies increase traffic to their
applications and Web sites while strengthening their relationships
with their customers. Hub ID currently manages more than 400,000
identities across more than 2,500 companies worldwide.
